Lembongan Overview

Lembongan is a gem of an island that's positioned at just a 30 minutes fast boat ferry ride away from Bali shores - so it's a wonderfully accessible gem also! At just eight square kilometers in size, with abundant marine life and healthy coral gardens, three awesome surfing breaks just offshore, slow island pace that's absent of hawker hassle, several white sandy beaches to explore and enjoy, this is an island worth coming to. It's the laid-back neighbor of Bali, with a character all of her own, laced with cashew nut, mango and coconut trees, and a flourishing seaweed farming industry too, that is worth a look. Most of the beaches are nowhere near as crowded as Bali beaches, so if you are in Bali but want that faraway tropical island feel, well it's 30 minutes away so 'come away' for a while and immerse in a little of the Lembongan life.

Lembongan highlights

Lembongan Surf's Up!

Surf's Up!
Laid back island, world class waves! Lembongan has three great surf breaks that are great fun when the tide is right. When the tide's medium to high, surf enthusiasts have a rip-tide-roaring time on Playgrounds, Lacerations, and Shipwrecks. In fact, the adrenaline will surely begin to flow as you come in via ferry and see the barrels rolling to your left. Don't worry, you can get your surfboards on the boats! Firstly, Playgrounds is the simplest surf to swim out to. It's just in front of Coconuts Beach. When the tide's right, it's a fun one to tackle. Lacerations is just a little further out and is generally more crowded because its a little bigger and better. The name comes because it's shallow and breaks over reef so be careful. Shipwrecks needs sailing out to, but when the swell is good, it's the best of the three! Come and try!

Lembongan Beaches of Lembongan

Beaches of Lembongan
Lembongan's beaches are well worth a visit. Dream Beach, a wonderfully secluded beach that's on the southern coast, has the powdery white sands that make the name so apt. There is a resort just off the beach with a cafe, so it's very easy to spend the day lapping up the rays and enjoying the tranquil atmosphere. Sandy Bay (or Sunset Beach) is a small beach, with waves that break on the shore providing a fun day in the sun - awesome beach and playful surf, great for bodyboarding and just good fun splashing around. When low tide comes, a cave emerges at the foot of the limestone cliff to the east of the bay, which is good for exploring. Sandy Bay is a really nice spot. Tamarind Beach is also great. It's located quite near the Playgrounds surf break and faces back to Bali, with some great little resort cafes to chill in.

Lembongan Adventures on Foot

Adventures on Foot
Lembongan Island has excellent walking tracks that are safe and enjoyable to explore. There are lots of interesting walkways, so it's just up to you which way to go. There's a great coastal walk amongst the low cliffs in the south. Starting at Dream Beach, the footpath takes you up towards the outcrop of "Devil's Tear", and on the way you can see some awesome wave formations crashing up against the cliffs you're hiking upon. At Sunset Beach, near the Beach Club, you can take the footpath northwest up the hill until you reach the cliff line. From here, you can gaze across the Badung Straight all the way to Bali. Following the cliffside path, every now and then, check out the coastal formations and keep your eyes peeled for the odd Kingfisher and other exotic birds along the way.

Lembongan Lembongan Living

Lembongan Living
There's a lot to explore in Lembongan, like the village seaweed farms where you can see a little of the local economy in action, or the yellow suspension bridge that links Nusa Lembongan to Nusa Ceningan in the southeast. Or how about kayaking around mangrove forests, or taking in the dazzling sunsets whilst sipping a cool drink on Sunset Beach. And of course there's the small matter of where to stay. Fortunately, a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets awaits. Sunset Beach hosts a large range of little beach houses that are just perfect for surfers and budget traveler. Some of the higher grade accommodation can be found further south toward Mushroom Bay and Dream Beach, which include private boutique villas with quality amenities and private swimming pools.
